What is Naked DSL??
Naked DSL services are a new offering by many ISP's that provides an ADSL service over an "inactive" Telstra phone line. That is, you don't need to have an active or working telephone line in to the propoerty you wish to have the ADSL connected to. The cable does still need to be in place and in tact, it just doesn't need to be connected to a phone number. Before you choose to go for a naked DSL service, do the sums!! Many Naked DSL servcies are more expensive than the matching ADSL service, and once the cost comparisons are done, you may not be saving a lot by not paying a telephone line rental any longer.

i seem to have lost all sounds, and as this is a recently purchased computer i am a bit concerned.have called once when i had some sounds, but have lost all now, even on start up.HELP??????

G'Day Tom, there could be a couple of reasons for this, and with out knowing your specific circumstances it is a little difficult to advise in this forum. Check the basics, are the speakers plugged in to the right port or outlet? are they powered soeakers? do they need fresh batteries or need to be plugged in? Check that your speakers are not "Muted" this is usually identified by a red circle with a line throught it in the bottom right corner of the screen. I hope these tips help.

Is ADSL available in Dubbo NSW??

The "general rule of thumb" is ADSL is available to 97% of populated Australia, surprisingly there are pockets of areas in inner Melbourne, Brisbane & Sydney that are unable to access ADSl services. These can be for a number of reasons, the local exchange maynot yet be upgraded, it may not be able to handle any more ADSL services, line noise, signal loss and distance can all be contributing factors to ADSL not being available to a particular property or address. Call our help desk on 1300 306645 and speak to one of our technicans, who can do a simple test that will cover 90% of scenarios.

I have recently upgraded my monitor but still cannot get my display to show a different resolution or number of colours so I am assuming the display adapter is what is holding me back. How do I go about changing this?

It sounds like it may be your Video Card is not able to handle the resolution. Try finding the latest drivers for your particular video card on the Internet, if that doesn't help you'll need to replace your video card as you suggested. These can be purchased as a single item, and it's a fairly simple task to cahnge the card. Make sure you turn off and unplug the computer before removing the case, discharge any static in you body by touching the case of the PC and again check out the web for the latest drivers.

How to stop incoming phone calls kicking us off msn??

This is quite likely the "Call Waiting" feature provided by your telephone company. Try turning call waiting OFF when ever you are on the Internet.

I am seriously considering the purchase of a PC and would like to know which version/release of Linux is installed as an option to Windows '98 ?. Comment: I was very impressed by the care and support given to a neighbour of mine who purchased a PC from you recently, compared to a local used PC dealer your PC's are cheaper, better servided, OS configured properly, packaged well and excellent support/instructions supplid - great work, great concept !?

Thanks for your email and especially your feedback regarding our products and services. It's always great to hear positive feedback. Sincere appreciation for your comments Max. Regarding Linux as an alternative to Windows 98, our techs here suggest Redhat as the way to go. It's more usable than most other Linux versions in our opinion. However, all our machines go out with Windows 98 on them by default, and as such we can only recommend Redhat which is freely available via download. Unfortunately as an organisation we do not have the capability to support the Open Source Operating System.

What is & what are the benefits of ADSL??

ADSL stands for Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line. ADSL is a broadband technology designed for regular phone lines. Today, ADSL's primary use is for high-speed Internet connections. But ADSL has the potential to deliver video conferencing, television, video-on-demand, and other "cutting-edge" services. As well as the speed factor, ADSL is much more convenient than a dialup modem. ADSL modems are always connected to the network, meaning there is no "dial-up" involved, and you no longer pay a telephone call every time you use the Internet. Additionally, ADSL modems share a normal telephone line - you don't need a separate line for the modem. When you evaluate the cost of ADSL, remember to consider the savings on line rental and telephone calls compared to an older-style modem. And consider the convenience of having the Internet always at your fingertips - with no waiting 60 seconds for the old 33K or 56K modem to make connection.

I have an older PC is it worth Upgrading??

Answer: This is one of those "How longs the bit of string? Questions! There are a number of factors to consider when looking at upgrading a PC. RAM is one of the easiest upgrades, it is low cost and can have terrific results, it's like a steroid boost for your PC. Hard drives are another area that are relatively low cost to replace these days and can give a PC massive amounts of storage space, the trouble here is that some older PC's won't recognise today’s 40 and 60 Gig HDD's. When you start to look at upgrading motherboards, you really need to look at just what you want, what you are likely to achieve, and the cost benefit. We'd suggest if you think you want to go this far, that contacting one of our experienced technicians is more appropriate to get some sound advice on your individual situation.

We have a small office with 4 PC's using separate modems and internet conections. Is it possible to join all the computers together and use just one conection? We can't afford a network and server though, the quote we were given was thousands of dollars.?

Thanks for your question, yes it is possible to "join" all the PC's together, and networks can be put together for very little money sometimes. 4 PC's could be joined up as a "peer to peer" network, they would not require a server and could be done either with Cat 5 cable or wirelessly. If you have 4 separate Internet conections, 4 separate phone lines etc for each set up, substantial savings could be made in the first few months by moving to a "small network. If you contact us directly on (03) 9486-9355 and ask for support we would be more than happy to advise you further.
